Folks of Richmond, VA: Tubing down the James River

I am so excited to announce the start of a new series of prints I’ve been thinking on forever.

Folks of Richmond, VA will focus on the people in this town that really make this place feel like home. The locals, the bar regulars, river rats, tattooists, your neighbors, my neighbors, anyone and everyone who brings this place alive.

With each new print release I hope to leave a tour guide style write up of a place or activity here in RVA. Eventually one day… who knows maybe I’ll put it all together in a publication:)

HOW TO TAKE A TUBING TRIP DOWN THE JAMES:
Tubing in Richmond takes place any time the air and water temps are warm warm warm and the waters of the James are below 5’! An easy place to check on the height of the river is by googling “Westham Gauge, James River”.
My favorite tubing route starts at the Pony Pasture parking lot, and ends at the Reedy Creek takeout (look for sign, “TAKE OUT” to your right as you float down).
Park a car at both spots, and don’t forget to leave your keys in an accessible spot for both vehicles! I’ve been stuck before and had to hitch a ride and that’s a whole other adventure in itself.

Pro tip: Blow up an additional tube around a cooler and tie both tubes together to have a caboose filled with yummy bevvies
